Wherever there is light, one can photograph.
— Alfred Stieglitz

I have always felt like I’ve had a pretty good eye for photography. I could loosely frame something up, get the color ‘about’ right, and present it differently. But like so many other hobbyists, since the invention of the smartphone, I secluded my interest in taking photos with the mobile camera. Snapping as I went, then leave the pics to disintegrate over time. Until when? Not entirely sure. What does everyone else do with the thousands upon thousands of captured zeros and ones sucking up their phone’s memory?

But in finding ourselves as newly designated “empty nesters”, the focus changed, and the desire to finally settle on a “no-kidding” hobby felt pressing. I think my wife sensed this - because one day, a Sony A7II arrived. From there, I was cooked. Every itch was scratched. I could get outside to wander, get as technical as I wanted, and express myself in hopefully the best way possible with the intent of leaving something.

A mark.

A tangible…thing.

And what is even better about all of this? Photography is a solo AND a team sport. Something to be done together with the ones you love (whether they hold a camera or not) OR on a singular adventure with you and the subject of your choosing.

So this is where I will write about this journey. Sometimes technical, sometimes not. But it will be honest ;)

I look forward to telling (and showing!) you about some of the adventures we will go on…it’s going to be a BUSY 2025!
